Bert Beelen was selected as the PLAA laureate by the Passwerk Board of Directors in 2021.
Bert founded the school De Lift Education in 2014, together with his daughter Katrien and son-in-law Ted Kappetijn. This school, located in Diest, is a secondary school for young people with an autism spectrum profile. Under the driven leadership of Annemie Willekens, they offer tailor-made education, with an emphasis on computer science.
Bert’s passion for social causes is one of his valued characteristics. His continuing commitment to accessibility and affordable education for young people with autism are admirable. Bert is in favour of a personal education budget so that every young person can follow and purchase tailor-made education according to his/her talents.
